Prosol project in Quebrada de Humahuaca

Production and Marketing of Dehydrated Fruits and Vegetables with solar Energy in “Quebrada de Humahuaca” World Heritage Site, Argentina.

prosolThis project promotes the development and creation of agricultural enterprises by giving training, technical assistance, transfer of technologies about the processing of fruits and vegetables, in small scale, and with traditional methods. The development of the existing small agricultural enterprises and the creation of new ones, added value to the raw material, generated jobs, improved the nutrition level of the rural population and made profit of the resources that in a regular basis are lost in high quantities.

The direct beneficiaries of the project are the micro rural producers. These producers will obtain an integral use of their products and existing resources at an adequate price for their possibilities.

The PROSOL project, because of its characteristics is a Local Development project that has allowed the creation of new products in the rural region, with most of its population in poverty situation. Through the added value given to the agricultural production chain the product has become appreciated. Two processing plants were built to dehydrate fruits and vegetables in the traditional way; 400 rural producers were trained in Productive Quality and 30 workers of the plants in Handling for Good Manufacturing Practices; the deshydrated products achieved are warrantee of quality food for traiding locally and internationally.

Keeping respect on the productive culture of indigenous drying of products, solar dryers were created (technology of the National Institute of non conventional Energy Sources of the University of Salta, INENCO). In this way, an industrial quantity can be produced with a few amount of conventional energy.
