Renewable Heritage

A guide to microgeneration in traditional and historic homes

REheritageThis document encourages and facilitates a reduction in fossil fuel use in traditional and historic homes through the integration of renewable energy systems, and came about as a result of Changeworks’ Renewable Heritage project. Renewable Heritage introduced clean energy technologies into traditionally-built, listed properties in Edinburgh’s Old Town, a Conservation Area and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This work built on the success of Changeworks’ earlier energy efficiency project, Energy Heritage, which has subsequently been nationally and internationally recognised as an example of best practice.

Renewable Heritage has shown that the sustainability and efficiency of energy in historic homes can be furthered by sensitive and appropriate use of clean energy generation systems. Such systems help minimise the risk of fuel poverty amongst householders in these homes, without adversely affecting the historic and architectural character of these valuable buildings.
