The role of renewable energy sources in the Loire Valley

Proposals for the landscape integration of renewable energy technologies.

Loire6The drawing-up of a wind power plan and the launch of a call for proposals for the architectural integration of photovoltaic systems both demonstrate that renewable energy is a hot topic in the World Heritage listed Loire Valley.

Wind power: In 2008, the Loire Anjou Touraine regional natural park produced a wind power plan which included a watchdog body to report on the potential sites for wind turbines within its boundaries and decision-making tools for local elected members.

Part of this tool relies on a geographical information system with which wind turbine visibility analyses can be produced. It also includes a guide to landscape composition for the siting of wind turbines.

Photovoltaic energy: As part of the “Renewable energies” chapter of their 2009 partnership agreement, ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) and the Centre Regional Authority are jointly launching the call for proposals for the “Architectural integration of photovoltaic systems”. The aim is to encourage template projects which will raise awareness of this subject.
