Seawater RE desalination project

Protect the landscape and environment of eco-tourism in Cu Lao Cham island biosphere reserve.

culaoCu Lao Cham each year welcomes about 100,000 visitors from home and abroad. Today, more than 2,500 people living on the island daily use water from rainwater storage and spring water.

People’s Committee of Hoi An (Quang Nam Province, Vietnam) has agreed with the Management Board of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and Hitachi Plant Technologies to pilot a project of filtering seawater in Cu Lao Cham island so as to improve water sources for people. The project has a design capacity of 400 m3 per day and is expected to start in 2013. When operating, the project will help improve the water shortage situation in the island, especially in the summer.

Sea water desalination project will use electricity from renewable energy (solar and wind energy) in order to protect the landscape and environment of eco-tourism Cu Lao Cham. In addition, to deal with the water shortage, Hoi An built a reservoir with a capacity of 70,000 m3.
