Minorca biosphere reserve organizes its 1st Congress of Renewable Energy

PARC EOLIC3As part of the celebration this year of the 20th anniversary of the declaration of Minorca Biosphere Reserve, and under the recent designation as headquarters of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves islands and coastal areas, Minorca Island Council organizes its 1st Congress of Renewable Energy and Sustainability on islands to be held between 11 and 13 April at the headquarters of the Consell and Maó Fairgrounds.

The conference will begin on April 11th in the afternoon, with the inaugural conference “The way towards Energy Sustainability: El Hierro 100% renewable”.

April 12th , according to the initial schedule, the day starts with a lecture “The global supply of fossil fuels, a risk and an opportunity for the island territories.” Later, lecturers on the energy system of the Balearics will be developed, the economic impact of energy in Menorca, the penetration capacity of renewable energy in the insular electricity system, the smart microgrids to integrate renewable alternatives to fossil fuels or challenges economic and social change model. On this very day, it is scheduled a debate with the audience.
Finally, the day will end with a lecture entitled “Climate change and systemic crisis. The transition to a future without oil ”

In the third and final day, there will be a debate entitled “Menorca, approaching to an energy model a hundred percent sustainable.” They will also comment on examples of local policies committed to sustainability.

In parallel to the celebration of congresses, it is planned to develop a fair and diverse activities as briefings, debates or information workshops, which will run until Sunday 14th April.
