Riga City Sustainable Energy Action Plan 2010-2020

rigaRiga is an old member of the Hanseatic League at the coast of the Gulf of Riga of the Baltic Sea and is considered to be founded in 1201 together with its historical centre which is included in the list of world’s cultural heritage. Riga is an architectural masterpiece –a pearl of art nouveau.

The Sustainable Energy Action Plan includes initial report and forecasts on CO2 emissions, measures for action aimed at reducing energy consumption, improving energy efficiency and mobilising renewable energy sources in the administrative territory of Riga city, as well as criteria for assessment of progress in achieving the objectives set in the Action Plan.

Riga City Council established the “Riga Energy Agency”, a municipal institution with the objective to manage and coordinate the development of power supply and increase of energy efficiency in the municipality through elaboration of relevant concepts, programs and projects. The Agency supervises the implementation of plans and provides access to information for the inhabitants of Riga city. Riga Energy Agency is the coordinating body for Riga Sustainable Energy Action Plan 2010-2020.

Riga Energy Agency has expertise in all issues regarding energy efficiency and introducing renewable energy sources. It has the designated staff, the Advisory Board of the Latvia’s most outstanding researchers for energy, engineering, economics and law and the all stakeholders’ representation in the Management Board of Riga Sustainable Energy Action Plan 2010-2020.
