The Nisdafe plateau
One of the unique characteristics of El Hierro is the Nisdafe Plateau, LA MESETA DE NISDAFE, which is formed on the NE-SW rift some 900 to 1.300 metres above sea-level. This was produced as the result of numerous volcanic cones splattering its surface, producing accumulations of lava flows in the volcanic edifices of Tiñor and El Golfo around less than 158,000 years ago. We are in what is called the “singing land” because of the noise that is produced when we hike over the hollow lava flow.
