The Garoe tree

The Garoé Tree or Holy Tree is a clear example of the constant pursuit of the local inhabitants of water supplies.

The Garoé is the symbol of the island. It condenses the water from the Trade Winds and deposits I t in the troughs where people and animals can access it to sate their thirst. This Tree figures in many of the local legends and is the symbol of the islanders’ constant endeavours to overcome their limited resources.
