Barrick Boosts Local Productive Sustainability

Teyde has ended for the company Minera Barrick Misquichilca (MBM) development study "Methodology of Economic Valuation of Agricultural Production in the towns of Atupa and Antahurán". The performance is included within the policy of engagement, acquired by Barrick with local communities to promote environmental sustainability of productive local irrigation committees.

The field of valuation of an agricultural productive unit is governed by multiple factors that are the basis of the value of property and its favors, which in turn are related to the potential of development and productivity, being one of the most important factors The water resource (its feasibility and availability of use).

In the work two main phases or tasks were distinguished:

  1. Field work. In which information, after being compiled, was systematized to allow the calculation of an adequate valuation, marked mainly by the agronomic potential of the area, the edaphoclimatic characteristics of the area, the implanted crops, the traditional production systems and the availability of Water.
  2. Development of an agricultural valuation tool based on productivity and income generation based on the availability of water, all from the perspective of valuation by capitalization methods and the determination of the production differential subject to the variation of the water resource . To achieve this we have resorted to the use of direct and indirect valuation methods determined by market prices and change in productivity.

The development of this work has been done through the joint venture Geoscala where Teyde is specialized in responsible mining company.
