Nespresso has announced a new strategy for sustainability up to 2020, with an investment of 500 million Swiss francs (414 million euros), to improve farmers' welfare and promote environmental sustainability in the supply and consumption of coffee
The new initiative, titled "The Positive Cup", is part of the actions that Nespresso has undertaken over the past five years. In the next six Nespresso will gradually supply sustainable coffee from its Grand Cru range to 100% through the AAA Program, investing more than 15 million Swiss francs in the three African countries of production: Ethiopia, Kenya And South Sudan.
The AAA Program, launched in collaboration with The Rainforest Alliance in 2003, pursues the objective of preserving the highest quality coffee and ensuring the subsistence of the farmers who grow it.
Nespresso will also compensate for its carbon footprint by planting trees.
