The Sierra de Guadarrama will be declared a Biosphere Reserve

The Mayor of the Real Sitio de San Ildefonso (Segovia), José Luis Vázquez, has assured that La Sierra de Guadarrama will be declared a Biosphere Reserve during the month of May.

This space will be constituted by the Segovian municipalities of the Real Sitio and El Espinar, with a total of 17,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​35,000 ha. And will promote the development of actions for the sustainability of municipalities.

The declaration of this place as Biosphere Reserve will be a recognition of a long history of harmonic development and an umbrella of protection for the natural legacy and to maintain the traditional uses that for centuries have allowed to preserve the Sierra. It is also intended that in the future be declared Natural Park.
