The representative of the Unesco Man and Biosphere Program (MAB), Miguel Clüsener-Godt, has announced that any of the 621 biosphere reserves that exist worldwide that do not fulfill the objectives of the Program and do not maintain the proper conservation of spaces will "leave" the network.
Clüsener-Godt made the declarations during the ceremony of delivery of the distinctions granted by Unesco to three new Spanish natural spaces: Terras de l'Ebre, Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar and Mariñas Coruñesas and Terras de Mandeo.
«The number of reserves is going to decline in the coming years, but this
will grant rigor to the Man and the Biosphere Program ", the representative of Unesco said.
Clüsener-Godt added that Spain is not ready In any of its 45 declared biosphere reserves - surpassed only by the United States (47). "Spain is the most active country in the network, not only in the area of conservation but also in the development of its populations," he stressed.
