The World Network is the link between sites of geological heritage, characterized by their international importance, their exceptionality and their extraordinary beauty, in which this heritage is used to promote the sustainable development of the communities that inhabit them.
Created in 2004 under the auspices of UNESCO, the Global Geoparks Network aims to foster cooperation between geological heritage experts and practitioners. It also seeks to promote awareness of geological hazards and mitigation strategies for natural disasters, as well as climate change and the need for sustainable management of Earth's natural resources.
